    Description

This original insignia consists of a gold bullion wreath embroidered on black felt.  Center has a small die struck silver plated brass castle 1 inch wide.  Back of insignia has what looks like some sort of treated brownish paper covering the backing material.  This is difficult to describe but I've seen this type of backing on many other original insignia. This one is almost identical to the one pictured in Campbell & O'Donnell's book of Headgear Insignia from the Don Troiani collection.  This is a real beauty retaining all of its black felt backing.  It has a very nicely struck small officer's castle in the center.  This piece has a beautiful aged patina on the entire insignia.  I've been collecting for 50 years and believe me when I say you do not see these often in this fine condition.   See photos for best idea of item and condition.  Questions welcomed.
