    Description

Mexican Yaqui Pascola Dance Mask, Miniature, Hand Carved Wood and Hand Painted, Mask is 2" Tall, hair measures 3 1/2" long, width is 1 3/8" and depth is 3/4".   I bought this in Northern Mexico in the 1980's.  It seems to have all the details of a Yaqui Pascola dance mask, which is performed in Northern Mexico and Southern Arizona.  It signifies the ritual transformation into the animal spirit who dwells in the Wilderness World.  The face is typically black with red lips, a white triangular design on the border represents the sun and the designs on the cheeks usually symbolize rain in the shape of tears.  There is hair for the eyebrows as well as on the chin.  It appears to me to be goat.
It's just a charming piece and in perfect condition.
